Organization
Dreams Come True, Inc. is an all volunteer organization. A Board of Directors comprised of four officers and twelve directors-at-large is responsible for the entire operation of the organization. There are no paid employees and no office space is owned or rented. The Board is governed by a set of Bylaws established upon foundation, as revised. Membership in the organization is available. The long term association of most members has provided a stable atmosphere and continuity.
A Little History
Dreams Come True, Inc. (DCT) was founded in 1982 by seven families in Denham Springs, LA with a goal of providing dreams, or wishes, to local area children with life-threatening illnesses. All funding was initially provided by those families. It was decided by this group that their work remain focused on the South Louisiana area, and 22 years later, that vision still holds true. While many worthwhile organizations work toward a similar goal, Dreams Come True is proud to have remained an all-volunteer organization, based in and serving the communities of the South Louisiana area. The group incorporated in 1982 as a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization. The organization was envisioned, and still is considered, a local, homegrown alternative to larger organizations of much broader boundaries that provide dreams and wishes to children. To reflect this, the name was changed in 2006 to Dreams Come True of Louisiana, Inc.
Where Do We Grant Dreams?
While most of the dream children reside in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas, dreams are granted to children living anywhere in the State of Louisiana. The volunteers will travel statewide to interview the children. The all-volunteer board has remained focused on this single goal with great success. Approximately 30 to 40 dreams are granted throughout the year.
Who is Eligible for a Dream?
Children aged three through twenty-one years of age with a life-threatening illness who resides in Louisiana.
Children between the ages of three and twenty-one are eligible to receive a dream after the medical review board of Dreams Come True determines that the nature of their illness does qualify them as a recipient. Children who have had a dream granted by any other organization will not be considered.
Pleave visit our "Refer a Child" if you feel someone you know qualifies.
